Anna and I are both Surrey girls and we met at St Bede’s School in Redhill. We went our separate ways to train professionally at performing arts colleges – I went to Arts Educational Schools London and Anna went to Elmhurst Ballet School and Millennium Dance 2000.
In 2007 we met up again and a few years later Anna invited me to join her in setting up Star Steppers Performing Arts Ltd. Our joint aim has always been to pass on what we have learned over the years, from training and working professionally in the performing arts industry, and offer excellent dance and musical theatre training at an affordable price.
You see more and more pop music in the West End these days – ‘Viva Forever’ (Spice Girls Musical), ‘Never Forget’ (Take That Musical), ‘We Will Rock You’ (Queen), ‘Mamma Mia’ (Abba) ‘Our House’ (Madness), Jersey Boys (Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons) …. The list goes on and on! So we felt it was important to incorporate pop songs, street dance and current styles into our classes. Children love performing to the songs that they hear on the radio and on TV – it makes it so accessible to them and gets them all enthusiastic about joining in and having fun! As a result they approach the classes with less insecurities and in turn this boosts their confidence and helps them overcome any insecurities. We LOVE our jobs – it is SOOO busy and we work long hours but we are doing what we enjoy so we are very lucky indeed! Being only our third year of running Star Steppers as a limited company, we are still very hands on with every aspect of running Star Steppers – from building the website and designing artwork for flyers right through to our favourite job off all – bookkeeping!! Most of our weekends are spent celebrating children’s birthdays at our dance parties! And during the week we dance the days away passing on our enthusiasm of all things musical theatre on to the children we teach at our classes! We are living the dream and only hope that more and more people keep coming to Star Steppers and living it with us!
